WORK EXPERIENCE FOR STUDENTS

Pinetrees Riding Centre offers students, from the age of 16 years old, the opportunity to live and work in Portugal while developing their equestrian skills perhaps with a specialization in either therapeutic riding or equestrian tourism, and, possibly, learning a new language. They learn to work in an international environment and give good customer service.

Students live in the villa, with all meals provided, and enjoy riding daily. The work is physical and is suitable for those with practical experience in caring for horses, and confident in all three paces. Training is given and work is carried out under supervision and with a strong emphasis on safety for the student, horses and others. There is a happy work atmosphere and students learn to be team players and adapt to changing conditions.

Students work 5 days week, with two days off. The minimum period is one month.

Applicants should contact bevpinetrees@gmail.com with their CV, details of their riding experience,  dates available, languages, height and weight. Include a head and shoulders pic and an “action shot” on a horse.

Priority is given to career students training on equestrian courses at colleges. Pinetrees works with Scottish Borders College, Groenhorst College Netherlands, and colleges in Portugal.

However, young students sometimes need time to grow whilst deciding on a career path and a work experience in Portugal may just give them a clearer view to their path ahead.

Charity – Volunteer

The riding centre works with the APPC – Associação Portuguesa de Paralesia Cerebral. This Association, established over 40 years ago, supplies therapeutic riding and hippotherapy to local children and young adults with physical impairment and/or learning difficulties who may benefit from contact with the horse. The programme starts in October and finishes at the end of May and would not be possible without the help of many volunteers. Training is given at the beginning of the scholastic year ( September).
